Sophisticated City Wedding at The Rookery in Chicago
The Rookery Building has a way of stopping people mid-step. Designed by Burnham and Root in 1888, with its lobby later reimagined by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1905, the space carries real architectural weight. When Mairen first brought it to us as her venue, we knew the work would be to honor that history rather than decorate over it.
Mairen and Jotham came in with a clear sense of what they wanted: a celebration that matched the building’s sophistication while still feeling personal and warm. The Rookery’s strong geometric lines became our starting point. Long tables and fanfare chairs drew on those structural rhythms, while tall branches softened the height of the vaulted ceilings and brought the room to a more human scale. Every printed piece, from the stationery to the day-of details, carried the same deliberate approach.
What made this downtown Chicago wedding work was the clarity Mairen and Jotham brought to every decision. Our job was to take what they already knew they wanted and build the structure around it. The result was a celebration that felt rooted in its setting and entirely specific to them. The Creative Planners are proud to have been part of it.
